Well hello there! This is a new blog I created to dedicate to one of my great passions.. hairless animals. Most people turn their nose up to them because they have always heard hl animals are unhealthy and require a great deal more special care, or that they are "ugly". My goal is to represent hairless animals with all honesty, and as well help educate others on the facts. What I write is not what I was told, it is what I have learned from experience in owning and breeding hairless animals. I am a breeder/owner/handler of Chinese Cresteds. I also own a Skinny Pig and a Hairless Hamster. This is a blog all about hairless animals.

What's the Truth?

So what's the truth? Are hairless animals really unhealthy, have shorter lifespans, get cold easily, have skin issues, require much more special care?

My answer is this. Hairless animals are certainly not unhealthy. Why would they be? They live just as long as any other animal, considering they came from a reputable breeder.

As far as do they get cold easily. Obviously no hairless animal should be kept outside. As long as you keep them inside at normal room temperature, they will be perfectly fine. They are actually warm to the touch.

Do they have skin issues? Every once in a while they can get dry skin. Apply pure Aloe Vera to their skin and it will fix the problem right away. Hairless dogs can have acne issues, but I have yet to have this problem with my HL hamster or Skinny Pig. They also can scratch their skin if they itch their self.

Hairless animals do not require much more special care than any other animal. They do require more protein however, and they seem to lose weight much quicker.

The truth is, they are just like any other animal except they received the hairless gene and express it.
